Love in cities

I wish you could tell me about New York

That city of giants that leaves me small

a place of stories that will outlive us all

and memories that will stay with you

what are the days like on those grey streets

with the swirls of colour around you

and the late nights of bright lights

with lovers had and lovers gone

you told me tales of highlands

where you chased your dream

and in its wake the world turned

and you found dust in your hands

there were days in this fair city

few and far between with smiles

the lit our faces all day

and I shared with you my stories

our stories diverged, unwound

for my feet belong to this soil here

and that dream left a trail away

but i still look down that path

across ocean and time

and wonder at what i said

and find myself a fool

to find my dreams lead me there

so tell me of New York

and the dream you made real

and i’ll show you the world i see

in the dreams of you with me
